OSUN YOUTH LEADERS VISIT INEC HEADQUARTERS, COMMEND REC, SEEK STRONGER INSTITUTIONAL PARTNERSHIP

In a renewed effort to deepen youth involvement in democratic processes, the Apex and the umbrella body of youth and youth organizations, National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, on Thursday paid a high-level courtesy visit to the Osun State headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The delegation was led by the Chairman of NYCN Osun State, Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, alongside members of the State Executive Council and leaders of recognised Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs) across the state.

The visit formed part of the Council’s broader agenda to strengthen institutional relationships and enhance youth engagement in electoral activities, especially during the ongoing nationwide Continuous Voter Registration (CVR).
Speaking during the meeting, the Chairman commended the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC), the management team, and the entire Commission for their openness, accessibility, and dedication to ensuring seamless voter registration for residents of Osun State.
He specifically applauded INEC’s improved operational procedures, increased registration centres, and the Commission’s commitment to transparency and credible elections.
Akinbode noted that the mass voter registration drive has played a crucial role in mobilizing thousands of young people to participate actively in the democratic process.

As a mark of appreciation, the NYCN presented a Symbol of Honour to the REC in recognition of his integrity, administrative excellence, and continued support for youth-focused electoral advocacy.

Responding, the Resident Electoral Commissioner expressed sincere appreciation to the Youth Council for their show of solidarity and partnership. He commended the Chairman for his proactive leadership, consistent advocacy, and exceptional contributions to the success of the Continuous Voter Registration exercise across the state.
The REC further charged the Council and youth organizations to intensify their awareness campaigns, especially at the grassroots, to ensure that more eligible young people register and participate in upcoming elections. He emphasized that youth remain the backbone of Nigeria's democracy and must continue to take ownership of the electoral process.

The engagement was described as productive, insightful, and timely, with both parties reaffirming their commitment to sustained collaboration. The Commission expressed readiness to partner with youth groups in civic education, voter mobilization, sensitization against electoral violence, and promotion of political inclusion.

INEC Osun State noted that it looks forward to more robust engagements with the NYCN as part of its strategic drive to strengthen public trust and enhance electoral credibility.

The meeting ended with renewed optimism for a stronger, more structured partnership between Osun Youth and INEC ahead of future electoral activities.
