NYCN Osun State Chapter Presents Appointment Letters to Caretaker Executives Across 31 Local Governments

Osogbo, Osun State — November 15, 2025

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, made a significant stride in strengthening youth leadership structures across the state as it formally presented appointment letters to over 300 newly appointed caretaker executives representing all 31 Local Government Areas. The ceremony, held at the Youth House Secretariat in Osogbo, attracted youth stakeholders, government representatives, and key community leaders.
Representing the Ministry of Youth Affairs,  the Director of Youth Affairs delivered the goodwill message of the ministry. She charged the newly inaugurated officers to manage all resources entrusted to them with prudence and accountability. She stressed the importance of collaboration among youth stakeholders and encouraged the executives to ensure that young people in every community are carried along in decision-making and program implementation. According to her, the Ministry looks forward to witnessing more coordinated, impactful, and responsible youth leadership at the grassroots.
In his address, the Chairman of NYCN Osun State Chapter, Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, clarified that the officers inaugurated are caretaker executives and not substantive elected leaders. He noted that the Council is working towards a full elective congress in 2026 and that establishing these LGA structures is a strategic step to ensure stability, preparedness, and effective youth representation ahead of the congress. He encouraged the appointees to remain focused on their responsibilities, urging them to be goal-oriented, God-fearing, supportive in their leadership style, and advisory rather than confrontational in their dealings. He further emphasized that no caretaker officer is guaranteed an automatic return to office at the end of their tenure, stating that future leadership opportunities will be based strictly on performance, dedication, and the confidence reposed in them by young people in their respective local governments.
Comrade Akinbode also outlined several operational expectations to guide the new appointees as they commence their roles. He urged them to immediately begin engagement with Voluntary Youth Organizations and stakeholders within their local governments, work closely with legislators and council chairmen, and establish strong relationships with Divisional Police Officers for security-related collaboration. He added that each LGA must set up an operational youth council secretariat and maintain digital visibility through active social media platforms and communication channels. He also directed them to issue identity cards to council members and ensure that all ten recognized voluntary youth organizations in each local government are functioning with effective executive structures. While stressing the need for consistent communication with the state leadership, he noted that the caretaker executives will still maintain some operational autonomy at their respective local levels.

Highlighting the Council's commitment to gender balance and inclusiveness, the Chairman acknowledged that three female coordinators were appointed among the 31 LGAs, describing it as a step toward broadening participation and representation of young women in leadership.

The event marked an important moment in the ongoing reform and repositioning of youth leadership in Osun State. The NYCN Osun State Chapter reaffirmed its resolve to build a more united, efficient, and purposeful youth constituency, as the newly appointed caretaker executives are expected to begin work immediately in preparation for the 2026 elective congress.
