The Osun State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has called on Governor Ademola Adeleke to urgently give assent to the House Agent Regulation Bill recently passed by the Osun State House of Assembly and to ensure immediate implementation to protect residents especially young people from continuous extortion and exploitation by unregulated house agents.
Comr. Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, Chairman of NYCN Osun State, addressing members of the press today from the Council Secretariat, confirmed that the Council had officially approached the Osun State House of Assembly on Monday. According to the Majority Leader, the bill has already been passed and is now awaiting the Governor’s assent and subsequent enforcement.
The Council commended the leadership of the Osun State House of Assembly under the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Adewale Egbedun, and the House Majority Leader, Hon. Kofoworade Adewunmi, for their proactive efforts and sponsorship of a bill that will have a positive impact on the lives of youths and residents across the state.
Comr. Olakolupo emphasized that life is becoming increasingly difficult for young people, as the unregulated activities of house agents have caused frustration and hardship for tenants and accommodation seekers. He warned that without prompt action, the situation could escalate, potentially leading to youths taking to the streets in protest.
While calling on all young people to remain calm and law-abiding, the Council expressed confidence that Governor Ademola Adeleke will take swift and decisive action to ensure the bill is signed into law and implementation begins without further delay.
