The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, was honoured with an Award of Excellence at the Annual Convention of the Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), Osun State.
The convention, themed “Let Thy Kingdom Come,” attracted a wide array of young Christian leaders, stakeholders, and faith-based organizations from across the state, providing a platform for spiritual reflection, leadership engagement, and discussions on nation-building.
Receiving the award, Comrade Akinbode expressed profound gratitude to the leadership of YOWICAN, Osun State, for the recognition, describing it as both an honour and a renewed call to greater service in the advancement of youth development and unity.
In his goodwill message, the NYCN Chairman charged youths to be true representatives of Christ in their daily lives, emphasizing the need for integrity, humility, discipline, and unwavering commitment to godly values in both personal and public engagements. He noted that the character of young people plays a vital role in shaping the future of society.
Addressing issues of civic responsibility, Comrade Akinbode strongly urged youths across the state to actively participate in the ongoing Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise. He emphasized that registration remains the first and most critical step toward influencing leadership and demanding accountability from those in positions of authority.
According to him, “the power to demand good governance lies in the hands of the people, and it begins with being registered and ready to vote.” He further encouraged youths not to be indifferent but to take deliberate steps toward shaping the democratic process.
The award of excellence conferred on the NYCN Chairman highlights his consistent efforts and impactful contributions toward youth empowerment, leadership development, and inclusive governance in Osun State. It also reflects the recognition of his role in fostering collaboration between youth bodies and faith-based organizations.
