OSUN NYCN CHAIRMAN URGES POLITICAL PARTIES TO MAINTAIN PEACE AHEAD OF GOVERNORSHIP PRIMARIES

The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, has called on all political parties in the state to uphold peace, fairness, and decorum as they prepare for their respective governorship primaries.
In a statement released on Friday, the NYCN Chairman emphasized that political tensions often rise during primary elections, but urged party leaders, aspirants, and their supporters to avoid actions that could trigger violence, disrupt public order, or threaten the unity of the state.

Comrade Akinbode reminded political actors that Osun State has enjoyed relative peace and stability, and every stakeholder has a responsibility to protect that record. He stressed that young people, who often bear the brunt of political crises, must not be used as tools for violence or division.

“The governorship primaries present an opportunity for our political parties to demonstrate maturity, internal democracy, and respect for the rule of law,” he said. “We strongly appeal to all aspirants and their supporters to conduct themselves peacefully and allow the process to reflect the true will of party members.”

He called on security agencies to remain vigilant, professional, and impartial in ensuring a safe environment throughout the primary election period. He also appealed to the media to promote accurate information and avoid inciting reports that could fuel tension.

The NYCN Chairman assured that the youth constituency will continue to support every effort that promotes stability, democratic growth, and the progress of Osun State.

“Elections should not be a do-or-die affair. Peace is the foundation upon which development flourishes,” the statement concluded.
