The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, under the leadership of Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, has held a strategic meeting with the newly appointed caretaker coordinators across all local governments in the state. The meeting, which took place on Sunday, 2nd November 2025, was aimed at providing direction, fostering unity, and ensuring the smooth coordination of council activities at the grassroots level.
In his opening remarks, the State Chairman appreciated the coordinators for accepting the call to serve, noting that their selection followed a thorough process of consultations and considerations. He emphasized that the appointment of caretaker coordinators became necessary to fill the long-standing leadership vacuum at the local government level.
Comrade Akinbode explained that the caretaker committees are to serve for a minimum of three months and a maximum of six months before the local government congresses are conducted in the first quarter of 2026. The first phase, he noted, will focus on restructuring and rebranding the councils, while the second phase will prepare them for the forthcoming congresses.
He urged the newly appointed coordinators to be exemplary in conduct, show capacity, and demonstrate loyalty to the vision of the council. “You are ambassadors of the NYCN in your respective local governments. Lead with integrity, humility, and commitment, so that the people will see in you a reflection of the values we stand for,” he stated.
In their various responses, the coordinators expressed appreciation to the state leadership for their confidence in them and pledged to justify the trust reposed in their capacity. They also highlighted the need for increased collaboration, better identification materials, and continuous engagement with state executives to strengthen local operations.
The State Secretary charged the coordinators to remain focused and resilient, noting that leadership comes with challenges that can only be overcome through consistency and teamwork. The Vice Chairmen from Osun Central, East, and West senatorial districts also encouraged the coordinators to maintain open communication and unity among themselves.
The Chairman concluded by urging all coordinators to be good ambassadors of the youth council, assuring them of the state leadership’s support and commitment to their success.
The meeting, which was marked by a strong sense of purpose and cooperation, reaffirmed the council’s commitment to youth development, leadership building, and good governance across Osun State.
