▫️As ijesa youth lament lack of skill acquisition centre
The Chairman of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, yeterday led members of the state executive on a grassroots engagement tour across the Ilesa and Ife axes as part of a coordinated town hall meeting initiative aimed at identifying challenges and amplifying youth voices across the state.
During the town hall sessions, the NYCN Chairman engaged directly with young people, listening to their concerns and offering guidance on the need for innovation, advocacy, and self-development. The meetings, which formed part of the council's statewide tour, provided a platform for youths to express their challenges, share ideas, and contribute to conversations on sustainable development.
While addressing the youth in Ilesa, Comrade Akinbode appreciated Governor Ademola Adeleke and the Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Hon. Moshood Olagunju, for their continuous support of youth-led initiatives and for creating enabling environments for youth participation across Osun State.
One of the major issues raised by the Ijesa youth was the lack of a functional skill acquisition centre in the region. They lamented the absence of a dedicated facility where young people could learn vocational and digital skills, which are essential for economic empowerment and self-reliance. Many described this gap as a barrier to unlocking their potential and breaking the cycle of unemployment.
Comrade Akinbode, in his response, acknowledged the concern and assured the youths that their voices would not go unheard. He noted that the council would consolidate their demands and present them to relevant authorities, adding that NYCN remains committed to advocating for resource distribution and the establishment of development hubs across all zones.
The NYCN Chairman emphasized the importance of community-driven advocacy, urging youths to remain peaceful, proactive, and united. He encouraged them to harness the power of technology and partnerships to solve local challenges.
From Ilesa to Ife, the town hall meetings served as a platform for dialogue, solidarity, and strategic youth engagement. The sessions concluded with appreciation for the NYCN leadership and renewed commitment from the youths to work closely with the council in driving meaningful change.
The town hall tour continues, with the council set to engage other zones in the coming days as part of its commitment to inclusive governance and youth-centered development.
