In commemoration of World Environmental Day 2025, the Chairman Osun State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, led his team for a organized and massive environmental sanitation exercise across the state. The event, themed "End Plastic Pollution," brought together hundreds of youths and community members to clean up major streets and public spaces in Osun State.
The NYCN Chairman emphasized the importance of environmental sustainability and encouraged Osun residents to take ownership of their environment. "As we celebrate World Environmental Day, we are reminded of the critical role we play in protecting our planet. It is our collective responsibility to ensure a clean and healthy environment for ourselves and future generations," Comrade Akinbode stated.
In line with the theme, Comrade Akinbode charged Osun residents to promote plastic recycling and stop plastic pollution, especially ahead of the upcoming Eid Kabir celebrations. "As we prepare to celebrate Eid Kabir, let us remember to minimize our use of single-use plastics and adopt sustainable practices that reduce waste. This is a crucial step towards a cleaner and healthier environment," he urged.
The NYCN Chairman also commended Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration for its proactive initiatives on climate change and environmental sustainability. "We appreciate Governor Adeleke's commitment to protecting our environment and promoting sustainable development. His leadership sets a shining example for other states to follow," Comrade Akinbode said.
The environmental sanitation exercise was a huge success, with participants collecting tons of waste and beautifying the environment. The NYCN Chairman expressed gratitude to all participants, stakeholders, and government agencies that supported the event.
Comrade Akinbode reiterated the NYCN's commitment to environmental sustainability and pledged to continue organizing initiatives that promote a clean and healthy environment. "We will continue to work with government agencies, community leaders, and other stakeholders to ensure a sustainable future for Osun State," he said.
The event concluded with a call to action for Osun residents to adopt sustainable practices and reduce plastic pollution. The NYCN Chairman encouraged everyone to take small steps towards a cleaner environment, such as reducing plastic use, recycling, and properly disposing of waste.
