Osogbo, Osun State | 13th June 2025
In a strategic effort to tackle youth unemployment and promote skill acquisition, the Directorate of Employment and Job Creation under the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, paid a courtesy visit to the Osun State Ministry of Cooperative and Empowerment.
Led by Comrade Fasooto Oludare (State Financial Secretary), Ambassador Enoch Odunayo (Director), the delegation included Bashir Agbolade (Deputy Director), Taofiq Adetoyi (Secretary), Adeniyi Ezekiel (Member), and other key officials. They were received by the Permanent Secretary, Barr. Michael Okediya.
Discussions focused on partnerships to equip youths with digital and vocational skills. Findings from a recent survey revealed that 43% of Osun youths face unemployment due to lack of opportunities, with capital constraints (36%) and limited skills (7%) also cited.
Recommendations included launching boot camps, a youth job portal, and increasing access to funding through public-private collaborations.
Barr. Okediya applauded the initiative and highlighted existing Ministry programs like vocational training in Osogbo, a solar-powered food market project, and the Cooperative College in Ode-Omu.
Both parties pledged continued collaboration to empower Osun youth.
