Osogbo, Osun State – [5th May, 2025] — The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, under the leadership of Comrade Akinbode Segun Olakolupo (popularly known as Omo’Akin), held its first official meeting with the Heads and Secretaries of Voluntary Youth Organizations (VYOs) across the state. The meeting, which took place in Osogbo, also had in attendance members of the NYCN State Executive Council.

During the strategic engagement, Comrade Olakolupo briefed the VYO representatives on the notable achievements of the council since his assumption of office. Most significantly, he announced that the government of Osun State has been very supportive towards the council. He expressed sincere appreciation to the Honourable Commissioner for Youth, Hon. Moshood Olagunju, for his unflinching support and collaboration, and further commended the Ministry of Youth Affairs for its consistent backing.
The Chairman also revealed that the state government has approved a leadership training program that will cut across youth groups and communities throughout Osun State. He noted this as another milestone in building capacity among young leaders.

Additionally, the council’s proposed Federal Constituency Town Hall Meetings have received government approval. These forums are designed to actively engage vibrant, useful, responsible, and visionary youth in all zones of the state, fostering direct participation and development-focused dialogue.
Addressing the structure of the council, the Chairman emphasized that all activities are being conducted in strict adherence to the NYCN constitution. He added that the inauguration date for the various directorates will soon be announced by the Council’s Public Relations Office.

In attendance were over 20 VYO leaders and representatives who lauded the Chairman’s efforts and commitment to inclusive leadership. They urged him to continue leading with integrity, transparency, and youth-centered focus.

One of the VYO leaders offered a reflective piece of advice, stating: “Among twelve disciples, there was a Judas Iscariot. But if everyone chooses to work on themselves and avoid being the Judas, we can move the council forward and achieve great milestones.”

The meeting concluded with a collective agreement by all VYO representatives to work in unity with the NYCN leadership, putting the interest of Osun youths above all personal or past issues.
