Osun NYCN Urges Youths to Stay Home and Calls for Peace Ahead of Local Government Elections

The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, has issued a strong advisory urging youths across the state to prioritize their safety and avoid any involvement in potential political unrest ahead of the upcoming local government elections scheduled for Saturday, February 22, 2025.

In an official statement signed by Comrade Akinbode Olakolupo Oluwasegun, NYCN Chairman, Osun State, the council expressed concerns over reports indicating that some political groups are allegedly planning to forcefully occupy local government secretariats. In response, NYCN has urged youths, particularly those residing near these secretariats, to stay at home and avoid any activities that could put their safety at risk.

The council emphasized that no election is worth endangering lives and cautioned young people against being used as instruments of violence. It also called on all political parties and stakeholders to embrace peace, adhere to democratic principles, and ensure a fair and transparent electoral process.

Furthermore, NYCN encouraged youths to exercise their civic rights responsibly by coming out to vote for their preferred candidates on Saturday. Security agencies were also urged to remain vigilant and proactive in maintaining law and order, preventing unlawful activities, and safeguarding the lives and properties of Osun residents.

As a non-partisan youth body, NYCN reaffirmed its commitment to advocating for peace, unity, and youth development, emphasizing that a secure and stable environment is crucial for progress. The council called on all stakeholders to contribute to ensuring a hitch-free election.
