OSUN NYCN CONDEMNS ATTACKS ON LOCAL GOVERNMENTS, CALLS FOR IMMEDIATE ACTION FROM SECURITY AGENCIES

By Adekunle Tunmise
The Osun State Chapter of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN) has strongly condemned the violent attacks orchestrated across local government secretariats in the state. The council is calling on the Commissioner of Police and the Director of the Department of State Services (DSS) to take immediate action against those responsible.

Earlier today, armed thugs and hoodlums, allegedly mobilized by the All Progressives Congress (APC), forcefully invaded multiple local government secretariats across the state, attempting to gain unlawful access to the premises. This follows the withdrawal of staff from these offices by the Nigeria Union of Local Government Employees (NULGE) and the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC).

Disturbing videos have surfaced showing incidents of violence, including reports of individuals being shot at Boripe and Olaoluwa Local Government Areas.

Reacting to the incidents, the Chairman of the Osun NYCN expressed deep concern over the escalating violence, emphasizing that such actions threaten the peace and stability of the state. He urged all parties to embrace lawful means of resolving disputes.

“If the APC claims to have a court order, the appropriate step is to approach security agencies for enforcement rather than resorting to forceful occupation of local government secretariats,” he stated.

The NYCN calls on all security agencies to immediately identify and apprehend those behind these violent attacks and ensure the safety of citizens, especially as the state prepares for the local government elections on Saturday.

The youth council remains committed to fostering peace and ensuring that the democratic process in Osun State remains free from violence and intimidation.
