The Honorable Commissioner for Youth Affairs in Osun State, Hon. Olagunju Moshood Olalekan, convened his first official meeting with the newly inaugurated executives of the National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Osun State Chapter, on 13th February, 2025. The meeting, held at the Osun State Secretariat Complex, was attended by the NYCN Chairman, Comr. Akinbode Segun Olakolupo, and other executives of the council.
In his opening remarks, the Commissioner underscored the critical importance of unity, collaboration, and a spirit of forgiveness among the newly elected executives. He acknowledged that challenges and misunderstandings may arise but urged the leadership to prioritize collective progress over individual differences. Hon. Olagunju called for the dissolution of all factions and emphasized the need for a unified approach to advance the interests of the NYCN and the youth of Osun State.
The Commissioner advised the Chairman, Comr. Akinbode Segun Olakolupo, to adopt an inclusive leadership style, ensuring that all stakeholders are actively involved in the council’s activities. He stressed the importance of fostering harmony and carrying every member along to achieve the council’s objectives.
Hon. Olagunju also announced plans to convene a follow-up meeting, which will include the immediate past caretaker Chairman, Comr. Oyeniyi Mojeed Oladimeji; his Public Relations Officer, Comr. Emmanuel Oluwaseun Adebisi; and the erstwhile Chairman of the Council, Comr. Ajala Adetunji. This meeting aims to further strengthen unity and chart a progressive path forward for the NYCN.
During the session, the Commissioner outlined several key initiatives to support the council, including:
1. The timely conduct of local government congresses to establish a robust grassroots structure.
2. The provision of take-off grants to support the newly elected executives.
3. The completion and handover of a fully equipped and modern Youth House to the council.
4. The procurement of a shuttle bus to enhance the mobility of council members.
The meeting was graced by the presence of Mrs. Taiwo Olajumoke, Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Youth Affairs, who reiterated the government’s commitment to youth development and empowerment.
